Who was the last King of Ahom Kingdom?
Answer
Purandar Singha was the last Ahom King to rule Ahom Kingdom in Assam. He became King twice. His first term lasted about 1 year (1818-1819) as Burmese attacked Assam and removed him from throne. Then British East India Company occupied Assam. In 1833, British made Purandar Singha King of entire Upper Assam. The deal was to pay British a tax of Rs. 50,000 per year. But later he failed/neglected to pay the tax and British removed him from throne in 1838. It was a end of Ahom Kingdom in Assam.
