Goalpara District, Assam, India
Goalpara is one of the districts in Assam state, India. It covers an area of 1,824 sq. km. and shelters a population of 1,008,959. The Goalpara district is surrounded by West & East Garo Hill districts of the state of Meghalaya on the South; Kamrup district on the East; Dhubri district on the West and mighty river Brahmaputra on the North. The district headquarters are located in Goalpara town. Goalpara has a sex ratio of 962 females per 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 68.67 %.
History:
The name "Goalpara" is believed to have originated from ‘Gwaltippika" meaning "Guwali village’ or the village of the milk men. Before coming under British rule, the area was under the control of the Koch dynasty. The present Goalpara district was created in the year 1983 with two Sub-divisions: Goalpara (Sadar) and North Salmara (Civil). In 1989 the Goalpara Sadar Sub-division was upgraded into a district and North Salmara Sub-division got merged with newly created Bongaigaon district.

- Sri Surjya Pahar: An important archaeological site with remains of rich cultural heritage of the area. It is situated about 16 km from Goalpara town. The Statues of Devi Durga , Ganesh, Surjya, Chandra and Buddha are found here.
- Pir Majhar: A tomb of a saint named Hazarat Sayed Abul Kasem Kharasani, who was respected by both Hindus and Muslims. It is situated at the heart of the Goalpara town.
- Naranarayan Setu: A 2.28Km long railway cum road bridge over river Brahmaputra.
- Kumri Beel: Kumri Beel is a beautiful natural lake located 11 km North-West of Goalpara town and1 km from Naranaryan Setu.
