Udalguri District, Assam
Udalguri district is one of the 27 districts in Assam state of India. The district has two sub-divisions: Udalguri and Bhergaon. Udalguri town is the headquarters of the district. Udalguri district was formed on June 14, 2004 as one of the four districts under the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District. This district is bounded by Bhutan and West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh state in the north, Sonitpur district in the East, Darrang district in the south and Baksa district in the west. Area of the district is 1852.16 square km.

Udalguri district has a population of 832,769 (2011 Census report) and it’s population density is 497 inhabitants per square km. Sex ratio in the district is 966 females per 1000 males. The literacy rate is 66.6%. Major tribes in Udalguri district are Bodo, Nepali, Santhali and Rabha. Assamese, Bodo, Nepali and Santhali are the major languages spoken in the district.

Udalguri district is connected with other parts of the state via road and railway. National Highway 52 connects the district with Guwahati and Tezpur. The distance to Guwahati from district headquarters in about 140 km. The Udalguri Bhairabkunda Road leads to Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. The Udalguri Railway Station is situated at the heart of Udalguri town. From this station, one rail line goes up to Rangia Junction in Kamrup district, while another line goes up to Jonai Station in Dhemaji District of Assam. The nearest airport is Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Borjhar, Guwahati.
Tourist Attractions:
Udalguri district of Assam shares Manas National Park with four other districts: Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Darrang. Manas is a Project Tiger Reserve, which is also a recognized UNESCO Natural World Heritage site. The park is also known for its rare and endangered wildlife such as the Assam Roofed Turtle, Hispid Hare, Golden Langur and Pygmy Hog.
