What is Treaty of Asurar Ali?
Answer
Treaty of Asurar Ali was a peace treaty between Ahoms and Mughals.
Following frequent battles in Assam, the Ahoms and the Mughals signed a peace treaty in February, 1639. That treaty later came to be known as ‘Treaty of Asurar Ali’. The treaty was signed between Momai Tamuli Barbaruh, who represented Ahom Kingdom and Allah Yar Khan, representing Mughals. As per the treaty, a border between Ahom Kingdom and Mughal territories was fixed. It was the Barnadi on North and Aurar Ali (near present day Guwahati) on South which demarcated the two territories. The Treaty of Asurar Ali ended the strife between Mughals and Ahom.
