About Assam University, Silchar

Assam University is a central University located in Assam state of India. Established in 1994, the University has it’s main campus in Silchar, while another campus is located at Diphu. Today, Assam University is one of the major educational institutes in the North-East India.

History:

Assam University, Silchar was established in 1994, under the Assam (Central) University Act, 1989. The Diphu Campus of the University started functioning from July 20, 2007. The university is well-equipped with solid infrastructure, expert faculty, modern equipments and all essential amenities. It has Central Library, Computer Center, Student Hostels, Gymnasium, Health Care Centre and own transport service etc. Moreover, NSS/NCC training and career counseling and placement cells are also active in the university.

Location:

The Silchar campus of Assam University is located at Dargakona, which is about 20km away from Silchar. The campus is spread in an area of 600 acres. The Diphu Campus is located in the hilly terrain at about 8 km westward from downtown Diphu towards Lumding. The campus spread over an area of 273 bighas with Mikir, Naga and the Barail ranges of hills at the backdrop.

The Assam University has 16 Schools which offer different courses in Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Information Sciences, Technology and Management Studies.
