Gyanjyoti is a Government of Assam scheme for school students in Assam. Launched in 2004, the scheme arranges educational trips for students of rural areas and remote districts. Students are selected from different parts of the state and during summer or winder vacation, they are taken to Guwahati for a 2-day tour of the city. During the tour, all prominent attractions in Guwahati city are covered. For example: Guwahati IIT, Cotton College, Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Planetarium etc. Government of Assam bears all the expenses of students, including the cost of transportation. Each year 7500 students visit Guwahati under Gyanjyoti scheme.
Details of Gyanjyoti scheme:

- Department: Planning & Development department through Secondary Education Department.
- Target group: School Students (Class VIII to Class X)
- Benefit: Free tour of major attractions in Guwahati city such as Sankardeva Kalakhetra, Zoo, Planetarium, State Museum, Guwahati University, Cotton College, Guwahati IIT, Balaji Mandir, ISBT etc.
- Eligibility: Student of Government or Provincialised schools in Assam.
Selection procedure: Each year, 10 schools are selected from every district of Assam. The selection is done by the Deputy Commissioner of the district. Then each selected schools prepares a list of participants for Gyanjyoti scheme. Schools are required to select at least 2 students for taking part in quiz competition, 2 for taking part in debate competition and 2 for his/her activity in cultural events.
