SCERT Assam 2016 Non-Gazetted Recruitment Answer Keys
Solved paper or answer keys of State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Assam recruitment exam for Non gazetted posts. Recently one of Assams.info users mailed us a question paper. It was from the exam held on January 24, 2016, for filling up various vacant Non Gazetted posts under SCERT, Assam. The question paper covered general knowledge and reasoning (both verbal and numerical reasoning). Following are the answers to the 50 questions asked in that paper.

What is the least number which must be added to 3560 to make the result divisible by 97?
3560 divided by 97 divided 3560 upto 36 with remainder of 68. For next interval of 97, we need (97-68)=29
So, we must add 29 more to make 3560 divisible by 97
13. d) 12 days
A can do 2/5 of the work in 8 days and B can finish the remainder in 18 days. How long would they take to finish it together?
A can complete in = 5/2 x 8 = 20 days
B can complete in = 5/3 x 18 = 30 days
A’s 1 day work = 1/20
B’s 1 day work = 1/30
A+B’s 1 day work = 1/20 + 1/30 = 1/12
So, they’ll complete in 12 days
14. b) 10 sec
A train travel at a speed of 36 km/hr. The length of the train is 100 meters. How much time will it take for the train to cross a telephone pole?
Speed = 36 km/hr = 36 x 5/18 meter/sec = 10 meter/sec
Length of train = 100 meters
Time taken to cross a pole = Length of train / Speed
= 100/10 = 10 second
15. a) 1032
The average monthly salary of the employees of a firm is Rs. 60. Out of the employees, 12 officers get an average of Rs. 400 per month and the rest get an average of Rs. 56 per month. Find the number of employees.
Average salary of 12 = 400
So, total salary of 12 = 400 x 12 = 4800
As a whole, these 12 get an average = 60
As a whole, total salary of these 12 = 60 x 12 = 720
So, difference in average salary = 60 -56 =4
So, total salary of rest is = 4800 – 720 = 4080
Number of rest of officers = 4080/4 = 1020
Total number of employees = 1020 + 12 = 1032

A shopkeeper marks the price of his goods at 20% higher than the original price. After that, he allows a discount of 10%. What is the percentage of his profit?
% Net profit = [% increase - % discount - (% increase x % discount/100)] %
=> 20 – 10 – (20×10/100)
=> 10 – 2
=> 8%

Divide Rs. 625 among A, B and C such that A gets 2/9 of B’s share and C gets 3/4 of A’s share. Then the ratio of shares of A, B and C is
B’s share = x
Share of A = 2/9 x
Share of C = 3/4 X 2x/9 = 6x/36 = 1x/6
Total 625 = x + 2x/9 + 1x/6 = 25x
=>x=25
A:B:C = 50/9:25:25/6 =4:18:3
18. c) 5 years, 25 years
The ratio of the ages of Bob and his father is 1:5. After 7 years, the ratio becomes 3:8. What is the present ages of Bob and his father?
Bob’s age = x; Father’s age = 5x
=>x+7/5x+7 = 3/8
=>8(x+7) = 3(5x +7)
=>8x + 56 = 15x + 21
=>7x = 35
=>x = 5
Bob’s age = 5 years, Father’s age = 25 years
19. b) 105
The salaries of A,B,and C together amount to Rs 333. If they spend 80%, 85% and 75% of their respective salaries, their savings are 7:6:9. What is the salary of A?
Savings: A = 7x, B = 6x, C = 9x
A spends 80%. So, saving is 100-80=20%
20% of A’s salary = 7x
20/100 x A’s salary = 7x
A’s salary = 100/20 x 7x = 35x
B’s salary = 100/15 x 6x = 40x
C’s salary = 100/25 x 9x = 26x
=>35x + 40x + 26x = 333
=>x = 333/111 = 3
A’s Salary = 35×3 = 105
20. d) 10 hours
A man takes 8 hours to walk to a certain place and drive back. However, he could have gained 2 hours, if he had covered both ways driving. How long would he have taken to walk both ways?
C1. Walk + Drive = 8 hours
C2. 2 x Drive = 8 – 2 = 6 hours
2 x (Walk + Drive) = 2 x 8 = 16 hours
2 x Walk = 16 hours – 2 x Drive = 16 hours – 6 hours = 10 hrs
