Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai (English title: The Catastrophe) is an Assamese feature film directed by noted filmmaker Jahnu Barua. The story of Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai was based on a novel by Homen Borgohain. The movie was produced by Sailadhar Barooah and Jahnu Barua. It stars Indra Bania, Purnima Pathak, Badal Das, Pranjal Saikia, Hemen Choudhury and Gaurav Bania. Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai was released on 21 August, 1987. The film received several awards and recognitions including National Award for Best Film, Indian Panorama, Silver leopard (Locarno), Best Actor for Indra Bania (Locarno), Citizens’ Prize (Locarno), World Ecumenical Award (Locarno), Best Film (Amien), Best Actor (Amien) and Best of Asia (Tokyo).
Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai Movie Story:
Rakheswar (Indra Bania,) is a farmer who leads a simple life with his wife Taru and two children. The paddy field is their main means of livelihood. Farmers are eagerly waiting for delayed rains, which is required to start ploughing of paddy fields. Soon the monsoon rain arrives and Rakheswar is prepares to plough his land. Then Sanatan, rich man of the village, confronts Rakheswar and claims his land. Rakheswar informs rakheswar that the land was pledged to him by Rakheswar’s father and was never redeemed.
