Benudhar Rajkhowa

Benudhar Rajkhowa (1872 – 1955) was a prominent Assamese writer, poet and dramatist. He was given Rai Bahadur title by the British Government. Benudhar Rajkhowa presided over the 1926′s Dhubri session of Asam Sahitya Sabha.

Biography:

Benudhar Rajkhowa PhotoBenudhar Rajkhowa was born in Dibrugarh on December 11, 1872. He completed schooling from Dibrugarh, Assam. Later he obtained higher education from Kolkata. Benudhar Rajkhowa served in various Govt. posts including Extra Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner. He received Raibahadur title from then British Government.

Rajkhowa started writing in an young age. His works appeared in Bengali newspaper Sanjivani and Assamese newspaper Jonaki. Some of his notable poetry books are Poncho Kobita (1895), Chandra Sambhob (1895), Dusogeet (1899) and Soru Lorar Geet (1899). His autobiography was Mur Jiwanor Dapon.

Benudhar Rajkhowa passed away in 1955.
