Situated on the Nilachal Hills of Guwahati, Kamakhya Temple is one of the greatest shrine of ‘Tantric Shaktism’, in India. ‘Ma Kamakhya’ is the Hidhu Goddess of Power (Shakti). It is world famous for the ‘Ambubashi Mela’. A large number of devotees, pilgrims and tourists from all over the world visits this temple during ‘Ambubashi Mela (festival)’.
This beautiful temple was built by ‘King Narakashur’. In 1565, it was rebuilt by ‘King Naranarayan’. Kamakhya Temple is hardly 8 km away from the Guwahati City Railway Station. Daily city bus services are available to this temple, from different parts of Guwahati City. This is a must visit for every tourist, visiting Assam.
